The truth, Onorato-style
Apologies to readers that don’t care about the upcoming Pennsylvania Governor’s race. You can just move on if you like, unless you’d be amused with an example of political double-speak at its best (worst?).
As a resident of a county bordering Allegheny (with tons of family in that county, btw), I’m at least a little familiar with the general nonsense that has been going on for years there. Sure, we all loved the property tax assessment issues over the years – who could forget the yard shed/kid’s clubhouse that was assessed for thousands of dollars? And then there’s the much beloved 1% sales tax levied for the new(er) stadiums (that was supposed to be temporary, wasn’t it?), and the pour tax on alcohol to support I guess it was mass transit. Throw in the nonsense over the casino, and new arena (wasn’t it possible to end up with both in one? Thank you Uncle Eddie and Co.!), and there’s plenty to talk about when it comes to Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato.
So when my husband came in for lunch break today, I was more than a little amused at his “complaints” about the Tom Corbett (Republican Gubernatorial candidate) signs in our front yard. Add to the situation, he bothered to pick up the Local section from the Tribune-Review Sunday edition, and pointed out a travesty of investigative journalism (tongue firmly in cheek!). I quickly scanned through the piece by Eric Heyl on Onorato, and his depictions of reality. Beyond being spot on, the piece is downright laughable. On a really good day, I doubt I could concoct such a thing for a candidate. All I can say is that whoever is managing Onorato’s campaign is a master at finding the silver-lining in anything, not to mention twisting the truth to the point of being utterly unrecognizable! Bravo!
