Pundits, politicians and bloggers are still buzzing over the Scott Brown victory in Massachusetts. What it means for the Democrats, the Obama Administration, and the upcoming election season remains to be seen. Health Care Reform is in the crosshairs, and just how to deal with the situation is up for debate.
Brown ran as “Mr. Forty-One”, telling voters he would stand against the passage of HCR, so there is no mystery to why many are calling his election the death knell of the legislation. Theoretically, this could be side-stepped, if the House would pass the Senate bill with no changes. Regardless, failure at this point can be deadly for the Democrats.
But what does the administration want Congress to do? The answer to that question depends on who is asked, apparently. President Obama stated yesterday in an interview with George Stephanopoulos that Brown must be seated before the passage of HCR. However, Press Secretary Gibbs ended up alluding to the press corps in yesterday’s press conference that other options (like passing the Senate bill as-is in the House) were still on the table.
