Sarah Palin’s Memoir or Going Fast to Make the Holiday Market

October 7th, 2009 by Elizabeth Ross-Harrison

Still debating on whether or not I even want to pick up this book, but Going Rogue definitely has everyone buzzing – even those who don’t pay attention to politics. Quick turnovers from book idea to finished product have been the nature of the beast in the publishing industry, with e-books and POD houses being credited (blamed?) for pushing the traditional houses to move faster.

Regardless, there is the inevitable question about how Sarah Palin got her memoir done so quickly. Sure, it’s reasonable to think that she’s had a heck of a lot more time on her hands, and some might swallow the concept that she’s worked very hard on it. But, I wonder where her sales would have been if people stopped to think about the timing on this one. All I can say is that I’m not expecting to see rave reviews on the merits of her writing. No matter how much the technology makes the printing process faster, time still is required to end up with a quality book. Then again, I doubt many are looking for quality on this one anyway!
